Tips for getting the most of your children’s lessons

To make your winter holiday in Falls Creek and in our Snowsports School as relaxed as possible, full of fun and skiing success, we would like to give you some information and tips which we have developed over many years of teaching:

Prepare your child for their lessons:

We recommend letting your child know what to expect before lessons begin.

The Junior Workshop Program runs all day, with both ski and snowboard options. It includes a fully catered lunch, with additional snack breaks if needed.

The Snowclub Program is ski only and offers two options:

  • Full-Day Program (ideal for 4-6 year olds): Includes lunch and snack breaks, giving kids plenty of time on snow to progress with their group.

  • Half-Day Program (best suited for 3 year olds): Includes a morning tea break and a lunch break. Learning to ski can be tiring for younger children, so this shorter option helps them rest properly and still enjoy their holiday.

Everything you need to know

Get Your Child Excited for Their Snow Holiday

In the weeks leading up to your snow holiday, build excitement and help your child feel prepared by incorporating snow-themed activities at home. Read winter stories together, watch snow-themed movies or shows, and encourage your child to dress up in their snow gear to get used to the layers. You can also practice making triangle shapes with their hands and feet—this helps develop basic ski or snowboard stance skills in a fun and playful way.

Plan Ahead for Your Mornings at Falls Creek

Each morning, give yourself plenty of extra time to get ready. Getting out the door will likely take longer than usual due to the additional layers of clothing needed and the time required to travel from your accommodation to the chairlift and up to the Snowsports School.

Falls Creek is a ski-in, ski-out resort, with the Snowsports School located at the top of the Halley's Comet Chairlift and Cloud 9. During winter (snow permitting), the roads are fully snow-covered, making walking more challenging. Moving through snow can feel like walking through soft sand—slower and more tiring—so allow extra time and energy for the journey.

The village offers a free shuttle service operated by Alpine Resorts Victoria, running regularly throughout the day. However, be prepared for possible long wait times and queues, especially during peak periods. Sometimes it will be faster and warmer to take a stroll than wait for the shuttle. This is also a great warm up for the full day's activity ahead.

Supporting Your Child’s Independent Lesson Experience

When dropping your child off for their lesson, we kindly recommend keeping your goodbye brief. We've found that children settle in more quickly, build trust with their instructor, and connect with their group more easily when given space to do so independently.

Remember, you're on holiday too—take this time to relax and enjoy knowing your child is in safe, capable hands. If you'd like to check on their progress, we ask that you do so discreetly and from a distance. Frequent check-ins or close supervision can unintentionally disrupt the lesson and affect the group dynamic.

Please note that if your child sees you and becomes upset, they may not be able to continue with the session. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping create a positive learning environment for everyone.

In the beginning, we need time and your patience!

It’s important to us that every child has the time they need to settle into the program, get comfortable with the environment, equipment, and their group. This creates the best foundation for learning and developing a love for Snowsports. Every child learns at their own pace, so we kindly ask for your patience if progress isn’t immediate.

Beginner Ski Lessons for Children Aged 3–4 Years

At this early stage, our top priority is ensuring that every child has fun and begins to develop a lifelong love of skiing. For children aged 3 to 4, learning to ski is all about playfully exploring the snow, getting comfortable with the equipment, and gradually picking up basic stopping skills—at a pace that suits each individual child.

Every child is different, and some may find that they’re not quite ready for the Snowsports group environment just yet. There’s a lot that’s new and exciting to take in—the cold, the snow, the gear—so if a child isn’t enjoying themselves, it may be best to wait another season or consider private lessons for a more personalized approach.

Our experienced team is here to support you during your holiday and can offer guidance if you're unsure about what’s best for your child.

Sun cream & cold protection:

It is extremely important to make sure that the children are always protected with sun cream which has a high UV factor - even if the sun is not shining in the morning, weather in the valley can be very unpredictable! In addition, children should have snow googles or sunglasses, especially if it snows. Please make sure that your child is warmly dressed (helmet, googles/ sunglasses, balaclava/neck warmer, thermals, fleece/jumper, ski suit and warm waterproof gloves, recommended to bring a spare pair of gloves) it is always easy to take a layer off if they’re too warm and spare clothes can be left in the group locker area.

Valid Contact Number – Mandatory

As part of our lesson terms and conditions, it is essential that we have a valid Australian phone number on file for the emergency contact listed with your child's booking. This is a vital safety requirement, and failure to provide a reachable number may result in your child's lesson being forfeited.

In the event of an emergency or if we need to contact you during the session, it is important that you answer promptly and follow any instructions provided.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and supportive environment for all children.

Allergies, Medical Needs, and Additional Support

If your child has any allergies, medical conditions, or special needs, please be sure to register this information when booking the lesson and inform the instructor prior to the lesson starting.

This includes but is not limited to: behavioral or developmental considerations, food allergies or intolerances, medical requirements such as asthma or anaphylaxis, and learning difficulties. Sharing any relevant information with our team helps us provide the best possible care and ensures your child is supported and included within the group environment.

Your openness allows us to create a safe, positive, and inclusive experience for every child.
